Midland ACS congratulates the winners of our 2025 National Chemistry Week (NCW) Illustrated Poem Contest! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We received 26 entries and our winners are Claire V. from Woodcrest Elementary, Vivian R. from Hemmeter Elementary, Felicity S. and Claire S. from Hawks\/FLIGHT Homeschool, Amelia C. from H.H. Dow High School and Olivia H. from Swan Valley High School! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

ACS Historical Exhibit is Re-Opening!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Plan a Visit to the new ACS Historical Exhibit \u201cChemistry: Legends, Locals and Lasting Impacts\u201d at the Bay County Historical Museum on Washington Ave in Bay City. We honor our connections to Rachel Holloway Lloyd (the first US woman to receive a PhD in Chemistry), highlight the sugar beet industry, alchemy, and Midland\u2019s contribution to the Chemistry we encounter every day. There is even a Selfie Station where photos with a mole can be taken. Please call the Bay County Historical Society for details on hours, etc. at 989-893-7533. Free monthly hands-on science programs are also being offered there by Midland ACS Outreach!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Midland Local Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) is sponsoring an illustrated poem contest for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Write and illustrate a poem using the NCW theme – The Hidden Life of Spices Contest Deadline: Sunday October 26 th , 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gift Card and prizes for all 1st and 2nd place winners in each grade category!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The FREE Middle School \u201cWOOD WORKS\u201d STEAM camp that was held at MSU-St. Andrews (1910 W. St. Andrews Rd, Midland) June 17-21 , 9am – 12pm was great! This experience was sponsored by the Midland Section of the American Chemical Society and Michigan State University. Campers were entering grades 6 to 8 in the fall. The camp involved speakers and activities related to wood, paper, and trees\u2014including climbing at Dow Gardens, forest management, and art and music with wood products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All first place winners of the Midland Local section moved on to compete in the ACS National Contest. Two<\/strong> local students won second place in their category!
